Show-Me

Through the Years

- Thirty-five churches and 140 individuals were contacted to determine interest in beginning a children's home in Missouri.

- A nonprofit corporation was formed to receive, educate and protect neglected children.

- Our first home was completed.

- Our second home, a modular unit set onto a basement, was completed.

- Our third home, funded by the estate of Ida Martin of LaGrange, was completed.

-Gale and Karen Culler arrived and began serving as houseparents. They became the directors in 1978.

s- Many additions to the facility were made, including a three-stall garage, a steel-sided barn, shop building (now food storage), memorial office building (now our fifth home), and two mobile homes.

- Ned and Louise Reed donated their home and 8 acres of land in Camdenton, Missouri.

- Our fourth home and the mechanics building were completed.

- Our El Dorado Springs unit, with 40 acres and one home, was donated by Ralph and Dora Plunkett.

- The multipurpose building was completed at our La Monte unit. It houses our offices, a Christian School classroom, and a gymnasium.

- The New Life Unit facility in Mayview, Missouri became part of the Show-Me operation.

- Ned and Louise Reed, who donated the Camdenton unit, left their home to be used as a second home for the children.

- Thanks to an anonymous donation we were able to purchase an additional 25 acres next to our La Monte unit. The land provided space to build a baseball field and a horse barn. Development goals for the property also include a wood shop, fashion barn, staff housing and offices.

- The Troy Culler Memorial Baseball Field and the horse barn were finished.  A portion of the horse barn will also serve as a wood shop. The fashion barn/staff housing outer shell is completed, with work on the inside to continue as money is raised. Plans to build offices on this land are still in progress.

-  the ranch unit is relocated- thanks to the help of the Sheridan Christian Church members,  who worked to find just the right property!  the new Sheridan ranch unit was opened in December of 2004 in Sheridan, MO.

-  Continued growth was experienced in our Christian school program with two new satellite schools developed at our Sheridan and our Mayview new life unit.  a receiving station was constructed for the processing of donated items which contribute much to our overall economical program.

- A new unit was started in Barnett, Missouri named the Drysdale Farm Unit after the gentleman who donated the land.  Stephen Drysdale gave 40 acres of his farm  to be used as a home for children.  Construction is still underway on the first home at this new unit.
